Op-Ed
As Professor Banisky suggested, I have been skimming the Op-Ed page of the Washington Post for the past few days. However, I'm still a little fuzzy on what an Op-Ed piece is. How does it differ from an editorial? Just in the fact that it's written based on one's opinion rather than on the opinion of the publication as a whole? I would greatly appreciate it if someone could clarify Op-Ed for me.

That is a great question that I believe most of the class wants answered. Sorry I don't have the answer but we wiill definitly ask Professor Banisky in class tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Encarta World English Dictionary, an op-ed piece is "an article expressing a personal viewpoint" and an editorial is an "an article in a newspaper or magazine that expresses the opinion of its editor or publisher."
ReplyDeleteSo, in my opinion, the difference is that the opinion of an op-ed piece is solely that of the author, while the opinion in an editorial is that of the editor/publisher.
Hopefully Professor Banisky can clear this up in class tomorrow.
