Hello Everyone,
I really enjoyed myself today at USA Today, learning about the different news rooms and how they work. What I enjoyed most was the way the employees explained their jobs and what great pleasure they have in doing them.
I was amazed the most at Marisol Bellos' job. To recap, she was the national reporter for the enitre news paper. In my opinion, she has a really big responsibility when it comes to delievering stories and being their when it happens.
Typically, a day for her is travel to the most urban or rural areas pof the world and pulling out a brillant story to reveil to the public. If I was to continue a career in journalism I would defianetly want to be a national report. They get to deliver exciting and on- spot news stories from all around the globe. In my own words, I would say Bello has a spontaneous profession.
So everyone tell me what you thought about today's trip and what inspired you, if any?

I agree with you Kiyah. Marisol's job interested me the most. I really liked the fact that she got to travel all around the world and meet so many new people. I think thats so cool. Also that she is there doing the breaking news is so interesting. I would love to do something like that in my future. Overall I really liked the visit to USA Today. The building was beautiful and huge! And exceptionally nice for a newsroom. I enjoyed the trip alot.
ReplyDeleteI too enjoyed visiting USA today. I liked going on the tour of the building with Josh Hatch, although, I wish we could have seen more. I thought that each person's job was interesting and thought it was neat how they all work together to produce the paper. I thought it was interesting to learn how online news is becoming more popular. I think it would be neat to see what turn new technology will have on the news in 10 or so years.
ReplyDeleteI could not believe how beautiful that building was! Even for all of the editors stuck at their desk, you have to admit it was a pretty cool atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteI too thought that Marisol Bello's job was awesome! Traveling around the country, and possibly even the world, reporting on all events sounds like a really awesome job. I just wonder how she has the time to be so spontaneous. Personally, I like to be very organized and I always plan things out so this sort of spontaneity would be very new to me. I also wonder how she reacts to seeing such horrible catastrophes all of the time. Two hurricanes in a row?!! That must have been both exhausting and depressing, seeing that much destruction in that short of a time span.
However, I think she enjoys her job despite some of it's negative components. As a journalist, I think that the fact that you are responsible for sharing what is going on with everyday people keeps you going when the work gets tough.
All in all, she has a phenomenal job.
I think the job would be great, but remembering you are there to report first, and too help second would be hard. It would be way too easy to join in a work crew picking threw debris to find survivors, and forget your story. Although that perspective might make an awesome story.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Bello's job must be exciting and frightening at the same time. Like Josh Hatch said, it's an "ego" rush. Her job is also one of the most important jobs in journalism, and one of the reasons that the traditional reporting will never die. We need people to go to a disaster scene with professional training and report firsthand.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the trip to USA Today, and I agree with Jenny that the building is absolutely amazing.
Marisol Bello was truly an inspiration to me. She showed that women can have an equal place in journalsim. Her gender did not affect the stories she reported (like Hurricanes). She is a great role model for everyone interested in journalism, male or female.
